OIL PRICES BRING DOWN CARBON » A stronger dollar and a contracting global economy have combined to bring down the price of oil to a 3 month low. Oil touched on $119.50 a barrel today, down from $147.00 a barrel a couple of weeks ago. Carbon prices, which are correlated to oil because of the gas link, have also tracked down.

SUPPORT FOUND AT 25.00 » The Dec'08 EUA price found support at €25.00 and as the buyers re-entered the market, spurred by a late rally in oil prices (up $6USD) carbon prices began to climb again.

OIL STILL SOFTER AND COAL WEAKER » Carbon prices have given up some of their gains on the back of Oil prices holding almost $10 per barrel under last weeks prices and coal prices softer. Profit taking on this opportunity to lock in the gains of recent weeks. The next support level on Dec08 EUA is seem at 24.35 Euro.

CARBON PRICES HOLDING FIRM » Despite a softening of oil prices because the tension relating to Iran seems to have relaxed, carbon prices remained strong bouyed by strong demand for German power.

A SLOW DAY » After a very active week and very high volatility in pricing, Friday was a day for the market to take a breath and for positions to be reconciled. As a result, volumes were low ahead of the weekend.
